Advisory Group

The purpose of the National Advisory Group for Integrative Planning (NAGIP)  is to determine how best to support integrative spatial planning in New Zealand. The focus of NAGIP is not to debate policy or legislative issues around spatial planning but to support integrated/spatial planning by promoting the development of appropriate systems and tools such as models and decision support systems (DSS) to do integrative planning. While it is not possible to predict the future the technology now exists to use scenario planning, forecasting, simulation etc. to think about what the future could be like, to explore best pathways to get there and to be well prepared for changes along the way.

The people/organisations involved have the role of determining how DDS models can be most effectively used in New Zealand, providing feedback to others, building capacity and understanding in New Zealand re the use of integrated tools, and undertake benefit transfer sessions to expose the models to groups that don’t usually have the opportunity to be involved.

NAGIP members have diverse backgrounds and expertise. The 4 different well-beings (social, cultural, economic and environmental) are covered by the members.

An additional role for the NAGIP is to provide a neutral outside view of the SP2’s action research approach. This is a formal part of the SP2 project.
