Mediated Modelling

Mediated Modelling (MM) works with stakeholder groups to combines the best of ‘participatory and consensus based approaches to decision-making’ with the best of ‘dynamic systems modelling’. Led by Associate Professor van den Belt this research scopes to ensure the research models and management models closely align with end-users needs.

Mediated Modelling involves upto 7 workshops with 10-20 participants to determine key drivers of changes in land use, demographics, economics, social and health considerations and natural environment. The aim is to capture the unique characteristics of urban systems in Auckland and Wellington from decision maker’s, visionary perspectives. Key influencing determinants include: networks (transport, energy (?), water, waste), competing land uses, multi-uses

Between 2012-2015 MM will build adaptive capacity by: (1) Evaluating the MM process by comparing perceptions with base-line. (2) Informing Objectives 2 and 3 and being informed by Objectives 2 and 3.
